Right near the scene of the time where and when these Oyster Catchers have been struggling also to survive! And the Milkwoods too!

This is in JBay. Down the way of Diaz Road. Where a pathway has been hacked. Through the protected Milkwoods. Joining Diaz Road with the beach. The path emerges right in the sacred breeding spot of the local Oyster Catcher couple here. Oyster Catchers breed here every season.
Boardwalk
There was a boardwalk being constructed recently (Part 1). Presumably to protect the Oyster Catchers. But the builders were building the boardwalk right next to the Oyster Catcher nest. Two beautiful eggs were laying there. In need of protection.
It’s breeding season!
Unfortunately, just after they hatched, they were gone. Some birders come to see this usually joyous event every year. The chicks normally hang out a few days. Before they can make it onto the rocks. Where they are safer from it’s number one predator.
DOGS!
Dogs off leashes pose the single biggest threat to these chicks.
Calling the Police
After the earlier-mentioned birders, who frequent the sacred breeding grounds often, were attacked by a rottweiler on the scene, the police finally took notice.
Mr. Nel, if you are reading this, please note, that we are ALL counting on you. To uphold the law. To stop dogs off leashes on beaches (except at dog beach down the way). To stop attacks on tourists.
And most of all, to protect the Oyster Catcher families.
Other Threats
Other threats to these chicks include having to battle plastic pollution. Glyphosate in estuaries. Cats. Further environmental destruction.
It’s all man-made stuff. As man encroaches ever-steadily into every last sacred corner on the planet.
Even the Milkwoods are not safe anymore. And they been there how long?
