In Part 8 the African Black Oyster Catchers are trying to start a family all over again

The African Black Oyster Catchers are trying to start a family all over again: In Part 8 we have the Oyster Catcher couple nervously trying to start their family all over again.
Their first two delightful little chicks, never lasted a few days. For at this juncture in their life, they are the most vulnerable.

To dogs!

Any and all dogs kill little birds. So do cats. And unfortunately, indirectly, so do humans. For it’s their cats and dogs that have single-handedly thrown the African Oyster Catcher community into a real puddle of poo. Their naturally awarded sacred breeding grounds are under constant threat. Threat of environmental destruction. And the threat from these domestic pests on the beach without leashes.

Since this is Part 8, everyone must know by now that Dog Beach is from Albatross to the north. Kilometres of open beach. Away from the Oyster Catcher breeding ground.

That’s the place for people-biting and bird-killing. Not near the Oyster Catcher breeding grounds. And the foreign tourists that don’t want to be bitten. Or to stand in dog shit on the sacred beach!

Yes, we all love dogs. And cats. Even goats too. But to the responsibility that goes with taking a set of highly mobile fangs to the beach and letting them loose, is massively misunderstood and ignored. Your pet can and will kill a baby bird! It’s a proven fact!
